Labor Day Walks
Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 03:19PM What a beautiful day! I just returned from a bike ride on the Lansing River Trail. I've decided to enjoy every bit of sun possible while it still lasts. Speaking of sun and enjoying the outdoors, why not start a regular walking routine this Labor Day weekend?
In fact, there are several "fun" events taking place this weekend that are great opportunities to get out there and walk. All of my fellow Michiganders are likely aware of the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk. It's the only day of the year that pedestrians are allowed to walk from Michigan's upper to lower peninsula. My mom and I did it last year (my first time) and it was wonderful! If you're an early riser, it's absolutely beautiful to be in the middle of the span as the sun comes up on Michigan's "Sunrise Coast" (Lake Huron). Why not start a great family tradition that will help promote lifelong fitness? For more information, visit this website: http://www.mackinacbridge.org/annual-bridge-walk-7/
Many local Michigan communities also hold Labor Day walks (for those unable to make the trek to Mackinac). Those of you that live near me in Owosso can take advantage of Owosso's Labor Day River Trail walk. The Owosso River Trail, which totals about 6 miles between Corunna (McCurdy Park) and Owosso will be overtaken with walkers getting in a morning walk to kick off their Labor Day festivities.
As for me, I will be in Minnesota over Labor Day weekend, visiting my girlfriend's sister and taking in the Minnesota State Fair. Janet and I are taking our bikes with us and I'm sure we'll get in lots of walking at the fair too. Have a great, healthy Labor Day weekend!

Hey everybody, it is Labor Day! I'm happy with my extra day off, and I am planning to make something fun that will probably involve a moto trip and seeing something new in Camillus I haven't seen yet.
